Florida State University
The Webster lab opened at Florida State in the Department of Biological Science in August 2024. Our lab is located in the King Life Sciences Building on the beautiful Florida State campus. We are currently seeking highly qualified PhD student and postdoctoral researchers to join the lab. See position-specific descriptions below.
We are housed in the Department of Biological Science and can accept students through the Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) or the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EE) programs. These programs have distinct admissions processes and expectations, so be sure to read the respective websites to determine which program is the best fit. Prospective or current PhD students who are interested in the lab are encouraged to reach out to Amy. All PhD programs are fully funded and include a stipend for living expenses.
Prospective postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to contact Amy with a CV and brief explanation of research interests and how those interests align with the lab. Funding is available to work on existing projects or to build new projects in pursuit of independence. Applications to external fellowships are also highly supported and encouraged, and dialogues about potential projects can begin well in advance of the anticipated start date, as appropriate.
We do not anticipate hiring at this level again until 2026. Technicians assist with molecular biology (including CRISPR-Cas9 and high-throughput sequencing), C. elegans maintenance, and lab organization. The ideal candidate will be conscientious, organized, and have some lab experience with molecular biology and/or C. elegans. Opportunities to pursue independent research projects with the support and expertise of the lab are available and encouraged.
We are not able to accept additional undergraduate students to the lab at this time. Please check back in Fall 2025 for potential opportunities. We often post projects via FSU's UROP program. Students who seek to join the lab should have a genuine interest and curiosity about genetics, but we will help you obtain the skills needed to be successful. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we also expect students to be able to devote at least 10 hrs/week for at least a year, and there are various potential mechanisms available at FSU to support your time in the lab. Please send Amy a CV (including anticipated graduation year and any relevant coursework/lab experience) and general areas of interest.
